Your editorial of Aug. 12, ”The wrong decision on `Iraqgate,`
” supported the idea that an independent counsel be appointed to ”explore the disturbing charges . . . and look into Iraqgate.”
Who cares? I have read articles that estimate costs for the existing Iran-contra investigation run as high as $50 million. It seems to be a vendetta, with investigation into all facets of many people`s lives. How does one control the unlimited use of taxpayer money? It appears that the current Iran-contra expenditures have never been audited and have run out of control. Maybe spent illegally. Now the taxpayer must investigate the investigator?
Who needs it? What is the value of that $50 million applied to a school district, or housing and food for the poor, or job training for the unemployed? And at what rate are the taxpayers` attorneys being paid? Who reviews that rate?
Enough already!
