Are pollsters telling the truth? Are they trying to influence people? As reported in the Tribune on Aug. 20 a recent poll shows that Clinton is ahead and Bush is far behind. Let`s look at this ”non-biased” ABC-Washington Post poll.

They say it was a nationwide survey of 598 likely voters. The 1990 census tells us that the United States population is 249,632,692. In 1988, 48,881,000 people voted for president and George Bush won. If we assume that only 40 percent of the population are eligible and could vote if they wanted to, we would have about 100 million ”likely voters” of which about 48 percent seem to care enough to vote. While that in itself is disgusting, to base a survey on 0.00048 percent of likely voters is absurd.

Asking 12 people in each of our 50 states who they might vote for is as meaningless as the poll I took in Wheaton. Ten of 10 people I asked said they`d vote for Bush and I was not selective. I only asked those I wanted to ask, and I am no more prejudiced than ABC or the Washington Post.
