Joseph C. Cavanaugh, 68, a Cook County deputy sheriff and retired Chicago Police Department detective, died Thursday in Palos Community Hospital, Palos Heights. A resident of Beverly, Mr. Cavanaugh served with the Navy in World War II. After retiring from the Police Department, he started working for the Sheriff`s Department in 1981 and was assigned to Cook County Circuit Courts. Survivors include his wife, Aileen; three daughters, Carol Cavanaugh, Janet Nolan and Susan McGoldrick; two sons, Robert; two sisters; a brother; and three grandchildren. Visitation will be from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday in Andrew J. McGann & Son Funeral Home, 10727 S. Pulaski Rd. Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 101st Street and Longwood Drive.
