Benburb, a 32-1 long shot, burst out of a crowded field with less than 200 yards to go Sunday to win the Molson Million and keep Belmont Stakes winner A.P. Indy from his eighth straight victory.

The race at Woodbine was billed as a three-way duel among A.P. Indy, Alydeed and Technology, but Benburb stole the show. He covered the 1 1/8 miles in 1:51 3/5 and finished a half-length in front of Elated Guy, a 50-1 outsider. Vying Victor, another longshot, finished third.

A.P. Indy, who took three months off after the Belmont because of a sore foot, looked sluggish the entire race and finished a disappointing fifth, behind Technology.

”He wasn`t confident at all,” jockey Eddie Delahoussaye said of A.P. Indy. ”He just didn`t finish at all.”

Alydeed, who lost to Benburb in a shocking upset in July`s Prince of Wales Stakes, held the lead for the first mile but faded in the stretch.

Benburb was ridden by Richard Dos Ramos, a last-minute substitute for the injured Larry Attard. He paid $65.50 to win.
