Itasca trustees have approved the Itasca Park District`s plans to install overhead lights surrounding two softball fields under construction on Rohlwing Road, just south of the Spring Lake Business Park.

Village Trustee Richard D`Ambrosia assured board members last week that any noise resulting from the facility will not exceed that of the BMX track that formerly occupied the land. The bicycle speedway, which closed down in 1987, attracted more than 1,000 people to its races, a crowd much greater than Park District officials expect at either softball field, said Randy Schawel, Park District director.
