In former President Ronald Reagan`s speech at the National Republican Convention, which was outstanding, he quoted Abraham Lincoln as having said,
”you cannot help man prudently by doing for them what they should and could do for themselves.
”You cannot help small men up by tearing big men down nor can you strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.”
”You cannot help the wage earners up by holding the wage payers down-nor can you help the poor by kicking the rich.”
”You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income nor can you establish sound security on borrowed money.”
These words were written long ago by my late uncle William J.H. Boetcker, the brother of my deceased mother, Mrs. Marie Boetcker Rowoldt. He was a prolific writer and lecturer. During President Franklin Roosevelt`s administration he was appointed by him to serve on N.R.A., The National Recovery Administration.
