Regarding the recent article, ”Ft. Sheridan considers leasing golf course,” the area being considered is across the street from the veterans`
cemetery, where 1,700 veterans are buried.
Memorial Day, during the solemn ceremony, we survivors and friends of the veterans were asked to move our automobiles because the golfers` claim of not wanting to hit the cars. We moved the cars, and a bus had to pick us up and bring us back to the memorial service.
Since the golfers want more area, there are 32 golf courses within a 20 to 30 minute ride, or they can use courses that do not interfere with memorial services for the dead veterans.
What did these veterans fight and die for? A golf course? How sad.
