Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates are moving ahead with a joint project that will allow emergency vehicles to pre-empt traffic signals on major thoroughfares while answering emergency calls.
The Schaumburg Village Board has awarded two contracts totaling $224,707 to Aldridge Electric Inc. of Libertyville for equipment installation and inspection services. Schaumburg will pay $168,539 and Hoffman Estates $56,168. The total cost of the project is estimated at $650,000.
Traffic signal pre-emption equipment will be installed at 78 intersections on major streets, including Algonquin Road, Higgins Road, Golf Road, Schaumburg Road and Barrington Road.
