If you watch TV sports with your spouse you probably suspected this: Women and men view the same game in vastly different ways.

In telephone interviews with more than 700 adults in Los Angeles and Indianapolis, a team of researchers discovered definite hers-and-his behavior patterns.

Among the findings in October`s Psychology Today:

– Men watch sports to relax, follow a favorite team, get psyched up, blow off steam, have something to talk about.

– Most women watch for the companionship of others gathered around the screen.

– While viewing, men talk about the contest, yell in response to action, and snarf down snacks.

– Women do chores while watching and limit their nibbling.

– Men focus on the moment of victory or defeat.

– Women ”show a deeper interest in the athlete and sport.”
