Female candidates for the U.S. House and Senate fared better than the estimates before the election by the National Women`s Political Caucus, a bipartisan organization in Washington. Caucus president Harriett Woods figured on a minimum increase of two women in the Senate, bringing the total to four. In fact, the 103d Congress will include six women Senators among the 100. On the House side, the caucus anticipated 38 women representatives, and there will be 47 among 435. ”While women still are far from reaching parity, the old prejudices against women political leaders seem to have disappeared,”
