As a fan of the film ”Somewhere in Time,” I enjoyed your article about the film and its followers (Tempo, Oct. 23). One important contributor, however, was omitted: writer Richard Matheson.

”Somewhere in Time” is based upon Matheson`s novel, ”Bid Time Return,” which won the 1975 World Fantasy Award for best novel. Other Matheson novels have been filmed as well: ”Hell House,” ”I am Legend” and ”The Shrinking Man.” Viewers of late night television have seen the Corman films of the `60s which Matheson scripted from Poe`s short stories.

Matheson`s work has been extensive and impressive. ”Somewhere in Time”

is only one of his many gifts. His name should have been included.
