Local organizations are still in need of charitable contributions including monetary gifts, the purchase of benefit items and donations of food, gifts and clothing.

– Barrington: Shelter Inc., a local child welfare agency providing emergency and temporary housing for children in crisis, will benefit from a warehouse sale conducted Friday through Dec. 20 by J.T.`s General Store at 511 Lake Zurich Rd. For information, call 255-8060.

– The Barrington Area Salvation Army and Church Women United will sponsor Barrington Giving Day from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 19 at Barrington Middle School`s station campus, 215 Eastern Ave. The group is collecting clothing, food, new or like-new toys and gifts for children. – Non-perishable food, toys, gifts and clothing may be dropped off at the Barrington Police Department on Station Street through Thursday.

– Non-perishable food may be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Lutheran Church of the Atonement, 909 E. Main St. Volunteers are also needed. For more information, call Mary Anderson at 381-9213.

– Monetary donations to purchase large quantities of food and essentials are needed. Make checks payable to Barrington Church Women United Social Ministries. Send donations to Mary Anderson, 126 Hidden Oaks Drive, Barrington, Ill. 60010.

– Carpentersville: The Carpenstersville Police Department, in cooperation with its Benevolent, D.A.R.E. and Crime Prevention programs and the Elgin Salvation Army, is requesting donations of warm clothing. Donations may be dropped off from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 20 at the police department, 1200 L.W. Besinger Drive.

– Crystal Lake: Donations of wrapped gifts and non-perishable food items are need by Turning Point, a McHenry County agency providing community-based shelters and support services for victims of domestic violence. Donations may be dropped off from noon to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the Center for Women`s Health Care, 285 Memorial Drive. – Des Plaines: The Des Plaines Optimist Club, a non-profit, community service organization focusing on youth activities, will operate a Christmas tree lot with proceeds benefiting the club. The lot is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily through Dec. 24 at River Road and Perry Street. Call 296-0186.

– Elgin: The Jayne Shover Easter Seal Rehabilitation Center is offering commemorative ornaments featuring scenes of the Fox River Valley. This year the ornaments showcase Lords Park. – Palatine: The Palatine Jaycees will operate the 33rd annual Christmas Tree Sale in Community Park`s west parking lot, on Palatine Road west of Northwest Highway, through Dec. 20. – Park Ridge: Maine Township is seeking donations to help fill Christmas food baskets to be distributed to needy local residents. Items such as frozen turkeys, canned hams, nonperishable dry items, canned meats, meals-in-one, grocery gift certificates and new toys may be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays through Dec. 22, at the Maine Township Town Hall, 1700 Ballard Rd. – Roselle: The Roselle, Bloomingdale and Medinah Unit of the American Cancer Society will present ”Love Lights a Tree.”

Participants may purchase a ”love ornament” in honor of, or in memory of, a loved one, through Dec. 31 at Harris Bank Roselle, 110 E. Irving Park Rd.; First Eagle National Bank, 1350 W.
