Bill Stokes` Dec. 7 column, ”Death and life in the season of the hunter,” portrays a hunter as a man driven by primal instincts, which joyfully override his ”reverence for life,” causing him to kill animals. He gains deep enjoyment from an ancient biological urge.
The hunter teaches our children that shooting a four-legged animal is a basic human need. Why are we surprised when our children do the same to the two-legged animal? Are they not taught to disregard life?
Re-read the column, substituting the two-legged animal for the four-legged animal. Would Bill Stokes glamorize the primal instinct of killing humans as he has done with animals? I find both equally sickening.
