Margaret Van Duch (“Portfolios put pupils in touch with their bottom line,” Dec. 22) gives well-deserved and long-overdue recognition to innovative teachers and administrators at Buffalo Grove’s Kildeer Elementary School for participating in the “latest trend being adopted by a number of northwest suburban and Lake County school districts: work `portfolios.’ “
The portfolios, containing pupils’ best classroom efforts, are part of the authentic testing movement which takes the concept of the performing arts and applies it to every classroom subject.
