Village officials are acknowledging that a parking problem exists in downtown Lombard but will not know its magnitude until a formal study is completed.
The study will determine whether the village should proceed with a parking deck, most likely west of Main Street that would serve commuters, shoppers and employees, said Jeff Coder, the village’s director of community development.
The study is expected to cost $40,000, half of which is coming from a grant from the Du Page Mayors and Managers Conference.
Similar interest in a parking garage five years ago had village officials considering buying and tearing down the Du Page Theater on Main Street.
“We considered building a garage when the village was flush (with cash),” said Village President Richard Arnold.
