Several letters printed recently express approval of the Peotone site for a third airport. However, in none of these letters have I found any mention of the fact that a significant amount of Illinois farm land will be taken out of production and cemented over.

Figuring conservatively that the 90 farms that will be destroyed average 500 acres each, we will see 45,000 acres of prime farmland which now grows corn and soybeans and supports various livestock operations disappear forever.

Recently a hard-times bumper sticker read, “Hungry? Eat your foreign car!” I propose a new one for Illinois and the world that depends on our agricultural products, “Hungry? Eat your airports!”
