Instead of spending $30 million to revise the State Street Mall, perhaps Mayor Daley should pay the police and firemen’s raises out of this money and leave the property taxes alone.

I have lived in the same home 37 years and the taxes have gone from $300 to almost $2,000 yearly.

This ease of obtaining money from other sources also indicates that it is not always necessary to stick the property owner. In fact it discourages home ownerhsip.

As you get to senior-citizen status the taxes should be gradually reduced and let the high-wage earners between 30 and 50 years old handle the burden.
