Math has never been one of this taxpayer’s best subjects, so one might be forgiven if one cannot understand where the savings to the taxpayer is in Gov. Edgar’s recent signing of the early retirement bill.
This bill allows certain people to go on pension with full pay-a generosity unmatched in the private sector-after 20 years (of service) and at 50 years of age. To this befuddled taxpayer, it’s hard to see the saving; pensioners still receive full pay, yet now do no work-for another 25 years.
Approximately 260 state troopers intend to hop on this gravy train; but, don’t worry, they’re going to hire 67 replacements-that’s a total of 327 salaries. That’s a great way to save oneself right into the poorhouse.
Politician’s math is certainly different from taxpayer math.
