Village officials will ask for a special census in order to take advantage of increased revenue that could result from growth in population.
The census, which village officials hope will be conducted this year, may result in additional yearly revenue of about $172,000 from the motor fuel tax, which is reimbursed to the village by the state in the amount of $21.20 per person, and $31.20 per person from the state income tax.
Cost of conducting the special census is $50,000.
Since 1990, the village population has grown by about 2,709 residents, to 34,387 residents. Officials believe that the population will exceed 35,000 by Sept. 1. Village estimates are based on occupancy permits issued since 1990.
