It’s amazing but not surprising to learn of Sears’ latest attempts at so-called restructuring. They dropped the city like a rock, made their exodus to their new Shangri-La out in Hoffman Estates, and just a few months later 50,000 more jobs are on the cutting board along with their heralded catalog.

I would like to know how many more communities and prime farmlands are going to be destroyed, or how many more lives are going to be thrown into disarray before Sears gets back on the road to profitability.

I imagine it will be just a few more years until we pass by their sprawling mess of a complex on the Northwest Tollway and read “For sale. Ideal location for shopping center or golf course.”
