In progress: Talks were continuing Friday between the United Auto Workers International and Ford Motor Co. over issues that could precipitate a strike at Ford’s ultramodern Kansas City carbuilding plant this weekend. UAW Local 249 at Ford’s Claycomo assembly plant issued a five-day notice to the automaker that workers could walk off the job after midnight Saturday. Unresolved concerns at the plant include work rules and health and safety issues. The plant makes the Ford Tempo and Mercury Topaz cars and the F-series pickup truck and is slated to begin production of Ford’s new “world” car in 1994.
