A Hungarian law that took effect Jan. 1 has made it easier for women to obtain abortions, but for a price. Government-set fees for abortions have doubled to about $60, one-third of the average monthly salary. Hungarians must declare that they need abortions on grounds of “crisis or a socially hopeless situation.” Abortions in cases of rape or malformed fetuses are performed free.
