I was extremely disappointed when I read the Feb. 5 Tempo article, “In a class by themselves,” and realized that Paul Galloway missed the opportunity to tell your readers about the many excellent professors at Rosary College and other small colleges in the Chicago area.

Once again the Tribune has chosen to focus on research institutions and ignore the value of those colleges and universities whose primary mission is teaching. That is unfortunate, for it is the day-to-day classroom experience which shapes our students and makes them tomorrow’s workers and leaders. In fact, it is the opportunity to work with and learn from professors-not teaching assistants-that leads students to choose small colleges.

We have a long list of faculty who have been honored by their colleagues as well as their students for their excellence as teachers. Many of them also are involved in research in their fields while simultaneously serving as academic advisers to their students.
