You are on the right track in the editorial “The wrong path to health reform” (Feb. 21) when you state that price controls are not the way to a healthy reform. And you are right again, in the same issue, when you point out that a “New industrial revolution hits U.S. big business” on the front page.
This revolution includes reform of the health industry. Finally, it has the attention of the nation and is under special study in the White House. It may now progress to a successful conclusion. If the June 1991 report of the U.S. General Accounting Office is heeded, the reform will be in the direction of changes leading to better care and lower costs.
The time is now for furthering this reform. To apply heavy controls before reform is completed would be like placing a heavy cap on a barrel full of dynamite, without first extinguishing the lighted wick. Let’s concentrate on supporting the creation of a single-payer health care program.
