I’m writing because of the proposed raise of the student bus pass that lets you pay half fare. There are several good reasons why the CTA shouldn’t consider the price raise from $5 to $75 to pay for tagging. One is that for $75, taggers would feel it was their right to tag. That’s the way some kids think.

Most of the taggers don’t pay for the pass, their parents do, so the price raise wouldn’t be penalizing the taggers at all. Some taggers don’t pay now because they sneak on the trains or buses, so it doesn’t make a difference to them if the CTA raises the price or not.

The only people it will hurt are all of the “good guys” and possibly the CTA because there could be a student boycott over an issue like this. Please consider our reasons for opposing Mr. Belcaster’s proposal.
