Northern Suburban Special Education District 804 will move the North Shore Academy, a school for youths with emotional and behavioral problems, into Stratford School, 760 Red Oak Lane, Highland Park, in the 1993-94 school year.
By housing the academy in the same building as Stratford School’s program for students with disabilities, the district hopes to save about $100,000 a year.
Stratford School, which has housed classes for disabled students for 25 years, has space available because many of its students have been moved to special classes in regular schools.
District 804 Supt. Colleen Wilcox said the two schools will remain separate, but added, “There will be some wonderful opportunities for staff to team teach, and opportunities to give our adolescent students some responsibility and involvement.”
