Convicted murderer Paul Crump walks out of prison despite a sentence of 199 years without possibility of parole, which was a commutation of the original death penalty (“Death Row to freedom in 40 years,” Feb. 21).
Elmer Gertz, his hotshot attorney, informs us that since convicted murderers average 15 years in jail, Mr. Crump has already been behind bars much too long! Did Mr. Gertz share his joy in Crump’s release with the murder victim’s survivors?
To add to the insult, earnings from a book written by Crump are used to purchase a home for him.
Has society gone completely insane? Are murder victims merely a convenient means for headlines and monetary reward?
