John M. Devitt, 55, of Lake Bluff, a retired Army lieutenant colonel from Ft. Sheridan and the human resources director at the Deerfield Federal Savings and Loan Association, died Saturday in Lake Forest Hospital. He served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Legion of Merit, five Bronze Stars, the Air Medal and two Army commendations. He is survived by his wife, Mary; five daughters, Eileen, Maureen, Erin, Jane and Margaret Morgan; two sons, John Jr. and Timothy; his mother, Nora; a sister; a brother; and two grandchildren. Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Blue Jacket Memorial Chapel in the Great Lakes Naval Training Center, North Chicago.
