In the article, “Naperville is last in poverty,” Naperville Chamber of Commerce member Kim Weeks laments the lack of affordable housing for “workers.” She states that “on one hand, we like our standard of living, but we need workers-we don’t need them now, but there might come a time when we do.”

I suspect that the future need for workers referred to can mean only one thing: the inevitable hiring of border guards to protect and defend the Naperville lifestyle.

Isn’t there any value placed on diversity? How are we defining lifestyle out here in suburbia? With comments such as those made by Kim Weeks, it’s no wnder that many Chicagoans view the suburbs with contempt.
