Village Board members have voted to ban leaf burning, effective April 1.
Board members agreed Monday night that their best alternative appears to be a weekly curbside collection program that would be partly subsidized by the village. The subsidy would be phased out after three years.
A majority of the board appeared to favor a plan under which, if residents were to buy 40 refuse stickers at $1.19 each, the village would give them 5 or 10 stickers free. The exact number will be determined at the next board meeting.
Trustee Robert Pakenham said the subsidy would help those with a significant leaf problem while encouraging others to look to composting or mulching rather than bagging leaves.
