If spring-training statistics are any indication- and, of course, they usually aren’t-first baseman Tino Martinez is headed toward some big numbers. Last year, his first full season in the big leagues, the former Olympian hit .257 with 16 home runs and 66 RBIs. This spring, he’s at .411 with six doubles and six RBIs. “Last year, I didn’t know what to expect from a pitcher at times. I was swinging at bad pitches and I didn’t know how they were trying to get me out. This year I have an idea of what the pitchers have and how they’re going to try to get me out.”
