Every time you go to the dentist, she makes you promise to floss. Driven by the fear of the drill, you do-for about a day. After all, flossing isn’t very pleasant.
W.L. Gore and Associates Inc., makers of Gore-Tex weatherproof fabrics, has developed a way to make it easier. It’s invented Glide dental floss, made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) instead of the usual nylon and cotton. The product doesn’t snap, slash your gums or shred between your teeth, its maker says.
“A lot of people who couldn’t floss because the space between their teeth was too tight or their dental work was too sharp can now,” says Trish Hearn, spokeswoman for the Delaware company.
Glide is available at Walgreen’s for $2.99 for 55 yards (a three-month supply). A 220-yard roll ($11) is available by calling 800-645-43337.
