French state-controlled automotive group Renault says its net profit soared 84 percent in 1992 after its best new-car sales in nine years. Its net profit rose to $1 billion, from $544 million in 1991. . . . Packard International, a business unit of Packard Electric Division of General Motors Corp., has been awarded CAMI Automotive Inc.’s President’s Award for 1992, which recognizes the best North American suppliers in terms of cost, quality, customer responsiveness and leadership. Packard Electric Division supplies power and signal distribution systems for the Geo Metro. . . . General Motors Corp. says it has become the top auto importer in Japan in February. The company said registrations in Japan, including North American-sourced units and Opel products, totaled a record 2,253 last month.
