U.S. Surgeon General Antonia Novello was in Chicago this month to open and lead a regional meeting for the National Hispanic/Latino Health Initiative. The purpose of the two-day conference was to get feedback and recommendations on dealing with Hispanic health issues such as the lack of medical insurance and child health care for working mothers, says Jose Arrom, executive director of the Midwest Hispanic AIDS Coalition, which helped organize the conference. The Chicago meeting is one of five regional conferences being held.
