In the Lake edition of March 3, you published a brief article titled “Group finds plenty of fat to fry in budget.”
Lisa Howard, director of public relations for Chicago’s Department of Aviation, was quoted as saying, “The $5.2 million doesn’t sound like a lot to me,” regarding an aircraft ramp repair at O’Hare Airport.
Statements like that from government representatives may appear innocuous, but demonstrate quite vividly to me why my government cannot balance the federal budget let alone decrease the deficit, which would be in a hospital intensive care unit if it were a patient.
I view $5.2 million as one hell of a lot of money, and would like tax-supported government personnel to share my perspective of “our” money.
We all know now that a million dollars here and a million dollars there adds up after a while-to roughly $4 trillion.
Thank you for the opportunity to vent my long-standing, but suddenly piqued, outrage at government’s lack of fiscal discipline.
