The library of the University of Illinois at Chicago has acquired the papers of Mary M. Bartelme for the Special Collection Department’s Midwest Women’s Historical Collection. Bartelme, who graduated from Northwestern University’s Law School before women could vote, in 1923 was elected a judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, the first woman elected to a judgeship in Illinois.
