I understand the frustrations expressed by Sandra L. Ebel in her March 2 letter when lamenting that home-based mothers are considered second-class citizens. But let’s abandon this talk and elevate the role of parenting to its proper rank, regardless of whether a mother chooses to be employed in the workforce, or put her career “on hold” for a time to care for her children at home.
As for the despair she feels in having no support group available to meet her needs, assistance is available from the nationwide network of FEMALE chapters (Formerly Employed Mothers At the Leading Edge).
FEMALE is a non-profit support and advocacy organization for women dealing with the transition between the workforce and home-based mothering. One of its principles is to enhance the image of at-home mothers without being critical of the choice to also work for pay.
