In reference to your article March 4 concerning the new FCC regulations about programming for children, may I ask the following questions?
Are the TV stations offering “GI Joe,” “The Flintstones,” etc., as examples of their educational children’s fare just pretending to be naive or ignorant? Or do they think everyone else actually is? Or are they the products of years of exposure to mindless, violent comic books, TV and movie cartoons?
Even if such entertainment merely reflects the escalating violence and celebration of ignorance in this society and does not cause these conditions, why would anyone offer it to children as casual amusement?
Do they fear that children would riot in the streets if they could not see “GI Joe”? Or perhaps they don’t know how to find or produce positive, informative shows in an appealing way?
Whatever the answers, I think it is a shameful source of income for all concerned.
