Mildred B. Malone, 87, of Westchester, a former editor with the now-defunct Austinite newspaper in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood, died Saturday in her home. Mrs. Malone, a longtime Austin resident, worked for the newspaper for 30 years as a writer and its woman’s news editor, winning several awards. Survivors include a daughter, Joan McCarthy; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Divine Infant Catholic Church, 1601 S. Newcastle Ave., Westchester.
