Forget who’s on first. In Boston’s camp, it who’s up first. For the time being, the answer is center-fielder Bob Zupcic. Lacking, as usual, a prototypical leadoff hitter, the Red Sox seem to have settled on Zupcic, who is only slightly better suited for the role than anyone else. “We’re still searching,” admitted hitting coach Mike Easler. “But Zupcic, I feel, is our best candidate.” Said Zupcic, a .276 hitter with two steals in ’92 as a rookie: “There are times when I say, `What am I doing here?’ Mike has been talking to me a lot about how to approach it. We’ve been working on taking pitches in certain situations, working the count- little things like that.”
