No matter what the outcome of David Koresh’s self-promoting standoff with federal agents in Waco, Texas, one point should be made clear-the blame for this tragedy rests equally with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms as it does on the warped man who considers himself the Second Coming of Christ.

The bungling ineptitude of the ATF, coupled with their almost blatant disregard of civil liberties, has created a no-win situation in Texas that has tragically left four of their own men dead and endangered the lives of innocent women and children.

What Koresh has done is inexcusable and he must pay for his crimes; he is clearly a deluded and warped individual. However, what is the ATF’s justification for their commando-style provocation? He had guns on his property.

Over the past ten years the ATF has committed hundreds of gestapo-style raids on private citizens’ homes that have resulted in no arrests, but have left innocent people with their homes ransacked and violated.

The ATF has a track record over the past decade that clearly shows this bureaucratic mess of a federal agency considers itself above the law and impervious to the Constitution.
