The board of directors of the USO of Illinois would like to express its sincere appreciation for the wonderful article recently printed about the organization in the Chicagoland section. As was so aptly stated, most civilians don’t realize that the USO, “so omnipresent during wartime, also operates in full swing during our country’s more peaceful periods.” As the only not-for-profit organization devoted exclusively to the welfare of the military, the USO has cared for American service personnel and their families for more than 50 years.
While the USO of Illinois does not receive any funds from the federal government or the more well-known national USO, services and help are always provided free. It is the generosity of the public at large, from such giant corporations as AT&T to various United Way organizations, foundations and the many individuals that provide these most needed services.
