The experts offer this spring-cleaning checklist:

– Windows: Wash the windowsills and clean and polish interior and exterior window panes.

– Window coverings: Take down drapes, curtains and blinds; clean, touch up wrinkles with an iron and rehang.

– Walls: Dust and spot-clean walls, ceilings and baseboards.

– Floors: Shampoo carpets; clean, strip, polish and wax tile and wood floors.

– Upholstery: Clean or spot-clean upholstery and vacuum entire piece and turn the cushions. Clean and polish wood furniture.

– Cabinets: Clean insides and outsides of kitchen, dining room and all other cabinets.

– Refrigerator and oven: Clean outside and backs of kitchen appliances.

– Sinks: Clean and disinfect under kitchen, bathroom and basements sinks.

– Vacuum lampshades.

– Turn mattressess.

– Wash or dry clean blankets and comforters.

– Wash porch furniture.

– Wash telephones and telephone cords and home office equipment.

– Dusting: Dust tops of furniture and picture frames, knickknacks, books and bookcases, and heating and cooling vents.

– Closets: Mend, clean, press and store winter clothing. Give away or sell clothing you no longer need. Take warm-weather clothing out of storage and rehang. Press any pieces of clothing that wrinkled in storage.

– Clean and reline drawers, clean walls, shelves, and baseboards and floors in the bedroom.
