Gov. Jim Edgar this week unveiled a new statewide computer database that allows law enforcement officers to rapidly determine whether suspects are gang members.
The network, known as the Gang Member File, will become operational Monday with 18,000 records of gang members stored in the mainframe computer of the Illinois State Police.
