The French have made it easier than ever before to translate fashion trends into reality.
For one, they’ve also rediscovered knits. Two, they continue to re-invent the jacket, many a working woman’s best friend.
Things to keep in mind:
Think lean and elongated. Jackets are long; most skirts are long, coats are very long. The idea: Think slender rather than hourglass.
Add knits, especially ensembles in pairs or even trios, all in coordinated or matched colors and textures. Visualize a tunic with a jacket and coat; sweater plus vest; top, jacket, skirt or trousers.
In colors, choose neutrals (black, all shades of brown, grays); in real colors, go with red, purple, olive, forest, burgundy. Opt for monochromatic whenever possible.
Consider velvet as a daytime fabric. Knits and velvets are the two strongest fashion fabric trends.
Think feminine details without going girlish. A softened skirt that allows for movement; face-framing necklines, such as a bowed blouse or sweater, a flounced jabot, a choker; even a flutter of ruffle at the hemline of an otherwise tailored suit.
