David J. Hanks, 56, a North Side businessman, died Thursday at his home. Mr. Hanks, who was born in Kansas, held a journalism degree from the University of Kansas. He had worked for the Associated Press, Paddock Publications and several trade publications. More recently he operated Open Door Books, a bookstore in the Lincoln Square neighborhood. Survivors include two sisters. A memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Unity Church, 1925 W. Thome Ave., Chicago.
