With respect to the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” gays-in-the-military compromise, I quote retired Gen. Robert Barrow, as reported in the Tribune: “The political compromise brings with it a moral compromise, and morality is the bedrock of our (military) profession.”

Oh, come now, general. I served in the military and morality had nothing to do with it. Loyalty perhaps, but not morality. We were trained to be professional killers and stay alive while we were at that task. If that’s your definition of morality, you and I are reading from a different page.
