– Oak Park regional-Joe Lazewski had four hits and three RBIs and Chris Gall added three hits and three RBIs to lead No. 1 Oak Park (33-5) to a 13-5 rout of Holy Cross in the title game.

– Morris regional-Kelly Dransfeldt did it all for No. 5 Morris in its 7-3 decision over Ottawa. He improved to 8-0 by scattering seven hits and striking out eight. And he also had two home runs to give him 19 for the season, tying a state record. Morris (35-2) advances to the Galesburg sectional.

– Lincoln-Way regional-Defending champion Andrew (29-4) advanced to its own sectional with a 5-0 victory over Marian Catholic. Vince Fiore (11-2) allowed five hits and struck out four. He also added two hits and an RBI while Mike Leatherman had two hits and two RBIs.

– Waukegan regional-No. 9 Libertyville (24-6) pushed a run across in the 10th to slip past Carmel 3-2. Matt Bernthal walked with two out and was singled to third by Shawn Park. Park then broke for second, and when the Carmel pitcher failed to step off the rubber before running toward him, a balk was called, scoring Bernthal with the game-winner.

– Hinsdale Central regional-Kevin Thill scored Jeff Iwinski with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth for Naperville Central (24-12) in its 2-1 title win over Hinsdale Central. Jeff Miller (9-1) went all eight innings and allowed just two hits.

– New Trier regional-Dan Dolney stole home in the first inning and sectional-bound New Trier (23-12) made that run stand up, defeating Maine West 1-0. New Trier’s Bill Barnes allowed just three hits and struck out nine.

– Oswego regional-West Aurora scored eight runs in the first inning and cruised 14-1 over De Kalb for the regional championship. Derek Santiago (12-1) tossed a five-inning one-hitter and drove in five runs.

– Providence regional-Brian Anson and Matt Dunne homered to power Providence (23-14) to a 4-2 victory over Plainfield and the regional title. Vince D’Aguanno scattered six hits for the win.

– Sandburg regional-Shepard advanced to the Andrew sectional with the 4-1 decision over Stagg. Craig Taczy tossed a two-hitter to earn the win, and Jim Dallio had three hits, including a home run.

– Woodstock regional-Scott Hutchins singled home two runs in the fifth to snap a tie and give Crystal Lake South (17-11) a 5-3 title-game victory over Round Lake. South’s Joe Mauer allowed two hits and struck out 13.

SOFTBALL

– Naperville North regional-Top-ranked Downers Grove South (31-1) batted around in a six-run fifth inning en route to an 8-1 title-game victory over Naperville North. Amy Elza earned the win with 14 strikeouts and also delivered an RBI double. Amy Thompson went 2 for 3 with an RBI.

– Morris regional-No. 3 Morris (34-3) won the title, edging Streator 2-1. Joy Battersby tossed a four-hitter with eight strikeouts and also doubled and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

– Morton regional-Fourth-ranked Oak Park (31-4) won the battle of heavyweights, beating Morton and ace Michelle Kobela 3-1. Melanie Marcy tripled and scored on Laura Zinanni’s single in the second, and Lisa Colucci and winning pitcher Laura Kolbusz added RBIs in a two-run third. Kolbusz won her 23rd game, allowing six hits by Morton (32-4).

– Sandburg regional-No. 5 Sandburg (29-7) advanced to sectional play by eliminating Thornwood 8-1 behind Jaime Martino, who has allowed one earned run in her last 10 decisions. Martino tossed a one-hitter while Katy Svihlik and Jill Adams drove in two runs apiece. “We didn’t play our best game, but we played well enough to win, which is what you want at this time of year,” said Sandburg coach Marty Balle.

– Thornton Fractional South regional-Chris Wells’ fielder’s-choice grounder capped a seventh-inning rally as No. 6 Rich East (28-1) scored four times to beat Bloom 6-5 for the title. Danielle Gladstone tied the game on another fielder’s choice.

– Riverside-Brookfield regional-Seventh-ranked Riverside-Brookfield advanced to a sectional matchup with Oak Park in the Elk Grove sectional with a 7-2 victory over Immaculate Heart of Mary. Annette Rebellato tossed a two-hitter and aided her cause with two hits and two RBIs. Nancy Campbell and Karen Freschauf added RBI triples for R-B (30-1), whose only loss was to Oak Park.

– Andrew regional-Stephanie Bogumil threw a three-hitter and Jenny Dolan went 3 for 3 with two RBIs as Andrew (19-9) stopped No. 8 Lincoln-Way 5-2. Lincoln-Way finished 28-4.

– Sycamore regional-Kathryn Carter tripled and beat a throw to the plate on a subsequent grounder by Kelly Lublow as Larkin (23-3) ended No. 9 Elgin’s season 3-2 in eight innings. Elgin finished 23-4.

– Fenton regional-Maine South (22-10) captured the title with a 2-1 defeat of Resurrection. Jenny McCormick went the distance with a four-hitter and eight strikeouts, and Kerri Vrbancic had an RBI double.

– Rosary regional-Rosary (24-8) earned its first regional title with a 11-5 defeat of Minooka. Winning pitcher Adrienne LeFevre drilled a two-run homer in the seventh, and Jenall Cisneros (4 for 4, two RBIs) and Nicole Hamling (2 for 4, four RBIs) contributed.

– Aurora Central Catholic sectional-Burlington Central (25-6) advances to Thursday’s Class A state quarterfinals in Pekin with its 12-2 shellacking of Milledgeville. Jordan Preston and Rachel Gussman had two RBIs apiece, and Joleen Schambach capped an eight-run fifth with the game-ending hit, earning Burlington the slaughter-rule victory. Robyn Runge pitched a four-hitter.

VOLLEYBALL

– Leyden sectional-Top-ranked Oak Park swept past Niles North 15-12, 15-4 in semifinal action. Lea Keovanpheng powered the Huskies (33-3-1) with 17 kills, and David Fife had 12 service points, including six straight in Game 2. Oak Park will face Downers Grove North in the final. Downers ousted Von Steuben 15-5, 15-4 behind the playmaking of Sean O’Malley (21 assists). Mike Domaszewicz had eight kills, Mike Stanley five. “We didn’t play as well as we’re capable,” said Downers coach Ray Butkus. “(Von Steuben) is a young team, and we took advantage of that.”

– Andrew sectional-Third-ranked Oak Lawn (35-2) struggled with Illiana in Game 1 and then pulled away to win 15-13, 15-5 in the semifinals. Eric Brown led the attack with 11 kills, and his brother Chris added seven. Aziz Abed had 17 assists. In Game 2, No. 2 Homewood-Flossmoor (24-6) struggled but got past Lockport 15-12, 16-14. Troy Harris had 39 assists and Josh Solomon 14 kills. “We were flat the whole match,” said H-F coach Kathy McKinnon.

– Lake Park sectional-No. 8 Elk Grove advanced to the sectional finals, beating Wheaton North 15-12, 15-12. It is the farthest any Elk Grove boys athletic team has advanced in state competition. Rodrigo Diniz had eight kills and two aces to lead the attack. “The key to winning this match was our ability to recover on defense in the second game,” said coach Gary Alperin. Elk Grove will face Maine West in the title game. Maine West, lead by Aaron Hagele’s 13 kills, outlasted Naperville North 15-9, 9-15, 15-4.
