The Chicago Transit Authority’s massive debt would disappear if the CTA would just sell the advertising space on its buses and trains.

For instance, the other morning my train showed 16 ads but enough space for 30. Eight were CTA ads, or unpaid space; one was for the Blues Fest. If the CTA sells each space at only $100 a month, it makes $3,000 per train car.

If there are five cars per train, 100 trains running a day, the CTA could be making $1.5 million a month-$18 million a year-on the advertising space alone.
