Andy Benes ended the Giants’ six-game winning streak and got his first victory in a month.
Benes (8-6) allowed four singles, including two by Robby Thompson, before Jeff Reed’s solo homer in the seventh inning put the first-place Giants on the scoreboard. Benes, who had three losses and two no-decisions since his last win on May 22, struck out seven in eight innings and walked two. Gene Harris finished the six-hitter for his 11th save in 14 chances.
